What is the best anxiety medication that works the fastest?
I am about to go to my doctor and ask her to prescribe me some anxiety medication. I have been dealing with anxiety for so long that I can’t take it any more. I wanted to know which anxiety medication works the fastest. I don’t want to wait months for the medication to kick in.

You have to exercise. Anxiety come from stress and physical activity gets rid of stress. if you have treadmill at home, do 30 minutes before sleeping, or if you dont have any exercise machine, get into tai chi or yoga. Tai chi is what I do and it does great things~^-^ it helps you relax and be healthy.

My grandma has a huge anxiety problem and the only thing that works for her is Ativan (lorazepam).

Your doctor will be able to prescibe something that you can take when you need to - something like Diazepam.
They will know whats best for you, try not to worry (easier said than done when suffering from anxiety!!)
It might be useful to write down what you need to say, as when we panic we sometimes forget things.
Hope you get some help

MEDITATION and not medication is the answer;
Combine good meditative practices with the medication that your doctor has prescribed. The response would be faster.
Also, continue with your meditative practice without interruption life-long, just as you would not forget to breathe!

Your doctor is the only one who should make such a recommendation, and this should happen AFTER she asks you a series of questions about your emotional state and physical health.
Seeking a prescription based on what you’ve Googled or seen in a commercial is not the way to go.
Report the symptons, and ask what can be prescribed.

The stuff Cheech and Chong used works pretty good….
On a serious note, just ask your doctor what works the fastest, and what the side effects might be if any. The two of you can then make an educated decision on what to try.
Good luck.

Xanax is good but it can also be addictive.

I’m not a doctor, asking people on Yahoo isn’t the smartest either. HOWEVER, at one time I suffered from panic attacks and was prescribed Xanax. It worked.

are you sure it is anxiety and not a form of depression? I used to get depressed because I was anxious and finally my doctor figured out that I have Bi-Polar disorder. Just make sure that the doctor knows all your symptoms and you get a full checkup.
I take buspar and it works well for me. A couple weeks and it worked for me.

Xanax, Klonopin, and Ativan work pretty quickly. For some reason, doctors are hesitant to prescribe antianxiety medications. Probably because they are addicting and also because it’s just covering over the problem not taking care of it. There are ways you can learn to cope with the anxiety. They may give you something to tide you over. They may also give you a prescription for antidepressants that work for anxiety too. Those do take a long time to be effective. It depends on your doctor. My family doctor wouldn’t prescribe me any antianxiety meds but my psychiatrist did.

Xanax and Valium are considered some of the best for generalized anxiety disorders, however not so for phobias, OCD or panic disorders. You might want to check in with the appropriate Health Professional if you want medicine prescribed accurately. Good Luck=)

Xanax does work quickly, but I’ll make another couple of suggestions as a fellow life-long sufferer. One is to make sure that you have enough magnesium. It is the mineral that can help anxiety specifically. I have included the link from the yahoo search, since there are so many sites to chose:*-http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fsearch&ico-wikipedia-search-value=http%3A%2F%2Frds.yahoo.com%2F_ylt%3DApkjjRTkwGdSfwKiw8KF1xkazKIX%2FSIG%3D11ia1qo58%2F**http%253a%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSpecial%253aSearch&p=anxiety%2C+magnesium
What has helped me the most is acupuncture. I went for pain related problems, but the main change which came about quickly, was a lessening of anxiety.

I would be very careful with anit-anxiety medications…especially Xanax. Xanax is a very addictive drug which has alot of side-effects. No matter what you choose to do, you should of course consult with a physician and research side effects yourself.

The only anxiety med I’ve ever taken was Lorazepam but I would not recommend it. It’s highly addictive and can give you a kind of blase attitude about things which is not healthy.
